Biigtigong Nishnaabeg invites students from 15 to 30 years of age coming from school and returning in the fall to apply.

Under the Supervision of the Environmental Coordinator, the Environmental Monitor’s duties will include:

  • Assisting in technical fieldwork, field site visits and support the lead field technicians in the collection of environmental data;
  • Participate in sampling program with the lead field monitoring technicians;
  • Assist lead technician in the processing samples and record results for fisheries program;
  • Participate in required training and educational programs;
  • Assist the lead technicians in community engagement and consultation;
  • Attend training programs when provided or needed;
  • Any other monitoring duties as required to fulfill the mandate of the environmental section.

Requirements:

  • Excellent oral communication and writing skills;
  • Must be dependable, responsible and have demonstrated a strong work ethic;
  • Motivated, takes initiative and requires little supervision as an individual and in a team setting;
  • Positive attitude and ability to interact and engage with staff, public and community;
  • Willingness and be comfortable working outdoors and inclement weather and conditions (heat, rain, bugs, etc.);
  • Basic knowledge and a commitment for the protection of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg territory, culture and history;
  • Willingness to learn, take on new challenges and be mentored
