Job Description:
The Mental Wellness and Crisis Team Manager is an active member of the North East Mental Wellness and Crisis Team. The North East Wellness and Crisis Team is a community-based program that will provide emergency response and early intervention services. The Wellness and Crisis Team will provide services using a variety of therapeutic and culturally appropriate services that enhance community wellness services, address gaps in services and strengthen partnerships. The Mental Wellness and Crisis Manager will respond to the wellness needs for community members in Pays Plat, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg and Michipicoten First Nation.

The Mental Wellness and Crisis Manager will work as part of an integrated Mental Wellness and Crisis team to respond to crisis situations and promote mental health and wellness services in each community. The Wellness and Crisis Manager will provide: crisis response interventions, trauma informed care, land-based healing, on-going counselling services, early intervention, screening and assessments, after care and care coordination. The Manager will be responsible to response to communities in crisis but also to improve communities access to mental wellness services and supports and to create linkages with new and existing services which are responsive to the needs of the individual, family and community in a comprehensive, client-centred, culturally appropriate manner. The Mental Wellness and Crisis Team Manager is part of a multidisciplinary team and broad network of supports which includes treatments centers, mental health crisis intervention and other community-based services as well as links with federal and provincial governments.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordination of a full range of mental wellness services in each of the First Nation Communities which includes direct clinical services, cultural supports and care coordination.
  • Ensure an effective and efficient response to crisis situations to provide intervention and direct counselling services as requested in each of the four local First Nation communities.
  • Provide client-centered, culturally appropriate services and programs that meet the unique needs of each community.
  • Provide crisis intervention support and service coordination to clients as needed.
  • Build capacity for emergency/crisis response within each of the four First Nation communities.
  • Provide coordination between inter-jurisdictional organizations to provide effective and rapid response to communities in crisis.
  • Improve access to mental wellness services and supports and access new and existing services that respond to the needs of community members.
  • Assess and provide therapeutic counselling services to both individuals, children and families.
  • To assess and determine when additional services of a more complex or intensive therapy are required and provide access to these services.
  • Participate as a collaborating member of the Wellness and Crisis Team in planning, developing and reaching program goals and objectives.
  • Utilize evidence-base practices to: manage crisis and promote wellness.
  • Work as part of an integrated team in each of the four First Nation communities.
  • Ensure appropriate liaison between community professionals.
  • Ensure the delivery of program services is consistent with the First Nation communities mission, values and beliefs.
  • To ensure accountability, professionalism and sensitivity in providing quality service that meet the needs of each of the four First Nation communities.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in the field of Social Services; BSW minimum, HBSW or MSW preferred.
  • Currently registered with a Professional Regulatory Body and is certified to work with individuals and families in a counselling role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community issues and or challenges within each of the four First Nation
  • Communities Pays Play First Nation, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg and Michipicoten First Nation.
  • Experience working with First Nation people in northern communities.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the culture and history for each of the four First Nation communities.
  • Recent experience working in the social service field.
  • Knowledge and experience with current assessment tools used in adult, children and youth mental health and addictions are considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written, problem solving, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of computer application including but not limited to: word, excel and power point.
  • Knowledge of Mental Health legislation and PHIPA
  • A valid Drivers Licence and use of privately owned vehicle with valid insurance policy with a minimum million dollar liability.
